Handmade wooden coin banks, cut one at a time in a small Ohio shop.
Every bank is cut out by hand on the bandsaw, then sanded and finished in the shop, with a clear window in the belly so kids can watch their savings pile up. Banks start at $30 — and if you’ve got an idea of your own, a one-off piece is made by hand, start to finish.
The full lineup
Coin banks, wooden flags, crosses, and key chains — everything made in the shop, most of it cut out by hand on the bandsaw. The banks each have a clear front window and a slot sized for coins: drop them in the top and watch the belly fill. This is a working maker’s catalog — pieces are made continuously, so if something you like isn’t on the shelf today, it can be made.
Everything in the catalog can be ordered right here — the Buy button takes you to a secure Stripe checkout, and the price you see already includes Ohio sales tax. Local pickup in the Waynesfield / Russells Point area: order ahead and we’ll have it ready. Shipping is handled case by case for now — if you’re outside the local area, call or text before ordering and we’ll quote the shipping up front, no surprises. Ordering the personalized flag? Its checkout asks for the name right on the form. New designs come off the bench regularly — if a favorite sells, ask about having one made.
Custom orders — the real fun of the shop
The banks are the ready-made line. The custom work is where the shop earns its keep: your words, your name, your idea, cut into wood.
Custom signs & name plates
Family name signs, shop and garage signs, desk name plates, house numbers — laser-engraved lettering in the wood and finish of your choice.
Personalized coin banks
Any of the bank characters with a name engraved on it, or a color matched to a kid’s room. A first-bank gift that doesn’t come off a store shelf.
Personalized flags
The small wooden flags can be made to order with a name, a school mascot, or service emblem worked into the design — a graduation, team, or veteran gift that’s one of one. Every personalized flag is made to order, so tell us what yours should say.
One-off pieces, made by hand
A one-off order is cut out by hand on the bandsaw — that’s the honest way this shop works, and it’s why no two pieces are exactly alike. The CNC earns its keep on production runs, when a batch of identical cutouts is needed. Plaques, cutouts, engraved gifts, parts for your own project — describe it and we’ll tell you honestly whether the shop can make it.
About the shop
Brown’s Sawdust Hobby is a small one-man woodshop outside Waynesfield, Ohio. Most pieces are cut out by hand on the bandsaw, the old way. There’s modern tech in the shop too — a CNC router and a 55-watt CO₂ laser for engraving the fine detail — but the CNC is for production runs, when a batch of identical cutouts is needed. A one-off piece is hand work, start to finish.
The coin banks came first: solid-wood characters with a clear window in the belly, made so a kid’s first savings are something they can see grow. Each one is cut out on the bandsaw, sanded, stained or painted, and fitted with its window by hand — no two come off the bench exactly alike, and that’s the point.
New pieces are in the works all the time. When a design is ready, it shows up here and on Marketplace — and custom ideas from customers have a habit of becoming the next regular product.
